Le Rire -1897, Issue 150. Published 19, Paris by M. Felix Juven. 24 pages. Text in French. Special issue devote to the trip of Felix I & Czar Nicolas of Russia. Includes wonderful period artwork from Hermann Paul. Scarce and pleasing original issue of this once weekly French periodical. Lovely turn of the century Art Nouveau illustrations throughout, in both color and b&w. The full page images are often worthy of framing. Paper is as typical now well age toned and fairly brittle (issue should be handled with care), but overall remains clean and well-preserved. There is some separation along the spine, pages are/could be loose due to the old organic spine glue having now age dried and crumbled. Small minor edge splits may not be mentioned if they are have been cleanly closed with archival tape and are almost invisible to the eye when browsing the magazine. Wonderful French satirical magazine from the Belle Epoque. Progressive and often critical of the corruption of the French Government at the time, this scathing social commentary sensibility is found throughout the issue, which is filled with beautiful artwork and period advertising.
