And then there was one… DON’T MISS OUT!!! This authentic brass carousel ring–the ONLY ONE I have left–came from historic Seabreeze Amusement Park in Irondequoit, New York (a suburb north of Rochester) located on the southern shore of the Great Lake Ontario. I purchased a LOT of brass rings directly from Seabreeze in 1995 (25+ years ago) and received their remaining inventory from the “good old days” with little awareness on my part of how rare brass rings are now and how fortunate I was to get them then. Riding a carousel (aka merry-go-round) used to also mean hanging on for dear life by your left arm from the pole on which the carousel horse (or other animal) was situated as far as you could possibly reach to grab a brass ring from a ring dispenser located at a fixed point on the circular route of the carousel. It was much harder than it looked! Many missed out on actually grabbing the brass ring and some also left the amusement park with a broken/ dislocated/ sprained right index finger.It was SO MUCH FUN (except for the injuries, of course!). I can still feel the “flick” on my index finger–which, by the way, never meant actually securing the ring. In the years since, parents, doctors, and insurers have successfully prohibited this mechanism. That said, “grabbing the brass ring” has long been a metaphor for “going for it”–pursuing one’s dreams, starting a new endeavor, setting out on a great adventure, or any number of things. That said, this is the PERFECT GIFT for someone starting a new business or career, or anyone who is pursuing a new endeavor or dream.
